marvels of science

The entire field of science has always been so spectacular. I find the joy of science in the fact that it's mostly full of people who have failed in their experiments or endeavors but still have the drive to create something revolutionary just to help someone or to learn more about the endless amount of things in and beyond our world. Obviously, there are many different aspects to science, and sometimes they can be controversial- these are usually the innovations that combine the best of both science and technology. Recently, however, I came across some biotechnology marvels that are so fascinating and creative that I felt inspired just by hearing about them.

One of my favorite news shows that has great reporting and storytelling is 60 minutes on CBS. They truly broadcast the most amazing pieces and interviews that are relevant to our time; one of these pieces being about the MIT Media Lab and how they have brought the craziest ideas to life. Back in the 80's, this meant self-driving cars and touchscreens, things that are less absurd and more real-life today. Some experiments they're doing now that stuck out to me include a wearable device (the big photo at the top) that you can ask questions to in your head (with that little internal voice everyone has- the one you use when you're reading in your head) and it'll recognize what you're "saying" through vibrations, Google the answer, and tell it to you in your ear. Another one is a pair of glasses for the blind that tell them what's going on around them- so if they're giving a presentation, for instance, the glasses will tell them in their ear about the audience's facial expressions in case they look bored or something. These creations, pretty soon, will probably be less absurd and more real-life.

The people behind all of these ideas are just as astounding as their devices. The great thing about the people doing all the inventing is how diverse they all are. It's not like everyone has a degree in engineering and knows all the ins and outs of technology- they're just people who have really ingenious ideas and a passion to make them happen. That could be you or me! We all have pretty cool ideas sometimes, right? Maybe not as cool as some of this stuff, but things that could still be interesting or valuable to someone. As average humans, we too can contribute things to the world. One of my teachers is patenting a product that she invented for the soles of high heeled shoes- nothing earth shattering, but still something that she feels could be useful.

Technology has taken our world so far into the future, and so quickly too, in a way that you're able to see so much development in one lifetime. The amount of amazing things that have arisen from technology is honestly incredible. I find these inventions to be some of the most encouraging things to hear about. People are able to do so much with so little, and I can only imagine what the world will look like when I'm older. Hopefully, I can be one of the people shaping that world!

So many people don't stop to think about these things, myself included. It is amazing how far technology has advanced and how quickly. Some of these gadgets do creep me out a bit, i.e. my Amazon echo occasionally hears "Alexa" when we don't say anything remotely close to it. Great post!

So weird! It's interesting to think how the future might look for technology when it's already this crazy!!
